CHENNAI : The University of Madras on Wednesday suspended two of its officials in connection with the `answer paper chase racket' exposed by a private satellite TV Channel on Tuesday. Amin Ali and Chandra Babu, both in the administrative sections of the University, were suspended and departmental action would also be initiated against them, Vice-Chancellor S.P. Thyagarajan told newspersons here, after watching the entire video recording that was supplied by the channel. As the video showed persons outside the university as being involved in the racket, Dr. Thyagarajan said the case would be handed over the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption for further investigation. The shocking episode showed an undercover team from the TV channel posing as distance education learners "trying to chase the answer paper." It showed Amin Ali explaining to them in detail how students could `chase the answer paper' by paying Rs.1, 500 per paper. The students should "make certain markings" in the answer sheet. Dr. Thyagarjan, who watched the recording, urged students and public not to panic. "There is no question of chasing the paper this time, because the examinations are only ending now and we are in the process of collecting the answer papers. We will set in place additional security measures to ensure confidentiality in the examination process." Meanwhile, the Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss has demanded action against the Vice-Chancellor for the answer paper racket.
