Media centre opened for polls

KOCHI: A media centre for elections to the 14 constituencies in Ernakulam district was opened at the District Collectorate on Wednesday by District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish.

The media centre will serve as the hub for news outflow in connection with the elections in the second phase of the Assembly elections on April 29. The Collector said that the media centre had been equipped with all communication facility. The phone numbers at the media centre are: 0484 - 2427152; fax 0484-2426381. The Collector, as the official in-charge of elections in the district, also made an appeal to the public to exercise their franchise.

Speaking at the opening of the Media Centre, Mr. Hanish said preparations for the elections were near-complete and only the last minute details had to be attended to.

The function to open the media centre also saw the release of a handbook on Assembly elections in the district in 2001.

The handbook also contains the details of candidates contesting from the 14 constituencies in the district. The handbook has been prepared by the District Information Office.
