THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left Democratic Front (LDF), which has received the backing of the Jamaat-e-Islami in this election, should make its stand clear on the Jamaat's opposition to providing reservation for the economically backward among the forward communities, the Manava Aikya Vedi has said. In a press note issued here on Wednesday, Vedi chairman Powdikonam Krishnan Nair said the LDF in its election manifesto had promised 10 per cent reservation for the financially backward belonging to the forward communities. The United Democratic Front, the Bharatiya Janata Party, the NSS and the SNDP had made their stand clear on the issue. The people should vote only for those candidates who stand for the economically backward irrespective of their community, the press note said. The plea was made at the executive meeting of the Vedi, the press note added.
