BANGALORE: The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has issued acquisition notices for 7.5 acres in Puttenahalli for building a box drain. Apart from this, it has given clearance for work on a road from the Ganesha Temple in Puttenahalli to Kanakapura Road. A private contractor will build the five-kilometre road and storm water drains along the stretch. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 12 crore. Work is to be completed in six-and-a-half months. The BDA has also issued for the fourth time tenders for a 3.5-km stretch of road between Inchara Hotel and Ganesha Temple in Puttenahalli. The estimated cost of the work is Rs. 8.3 crore. All this is being done to ensure that the area does not flood up this rainy season. Officials say that the flooding problem was acute last year because several people had built structures on top of the drain blocking the passage of water. To remove the encroachments from the lakebed area, the BDA earlier this year, issued show cause notices to residents of 27 houses in Puttenahalli. The Chief Minister on Tuesday had taken a dim view of rain preparedness work done by the civic agencies during a review meeting.
