BANGALORE: An armed gang of dacoits struck at a geologist's house on the outskirts of the city in the early hours of Wednesday and made away with gold ornaments valued at Rs. 1 lakh and mobile phones after assaulting the occupants of the house. The police said the incident occurred around 2.45 a.m. at Madhusudan's secluded house in Ajit Layout off Battarahalli in Hoskote police station limits. The police said Madhusudan, who works in the Geological Survey of India, and his wife were not at home when the incident occurred. The dacoits entered the house by breaking open the main door using a crow bar, the police said. They assaulted Venugopal, Madhusudhan's relative, and others. They took away eight gold bangles, four gold chains and three mobile phones, the police said. The police pressed a dog squad into service. Fingerprint experts visited the place. The dacoits spoke Telugu and Hindi, the police added.
Murder
A woman, who intervened in a domestic dispute, was murdered in Laxmi Layout in Garvebhavipalya in Madiwala police station limits on Wednesday. The police gave the name of the woman as Puttamma (55). The police said she tried to resolve a dispute between her tenant couple, Nandagopal, a lorry driver, and his wife, Aruna Devi, and was unintentionally stabbed in the melee. According to the police, Nandagopal and Aruna Devi used to have quarrels often. Following one such fight, Puttamma went to her tenants' house to resolve the fight. When she was trying to mediate, Nandagopal took out a knife and inadvertently assaulted Puttamma, who died on the spot, the police said. Puttamma's four sons then assaulted Nandagopal before handing him over to the police.
Burglary
Articles and cash were taken away from the house of a realtor in Nagashettihalli in Sanjay Nagar police station limits on Tuesday. According to the police, realtor Gangadharaiah had locked his house and had gone to Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh on April 21. His brother, Ramesh, who came to the house on Tuesday, found Rs. 40,000 in cash and some gold ornaments missing, the police said. A case has been registered.
