BANGKOK: The Election Commission will go ahead with the third round of ballot slated for Saturday despite calls from the civic and academic groups to halt the election. After a meeting of its four Commissioners in the wake of the King's speech, its Chairman Wassana Permlarp said the agency had decided to proceed with its duty, Bangkok Post reported on Thursday. He said the Commission had taken the King's remarks into consideration and has done what is legal. The nation needs to follow the rules. Thailand's revered monarch said in a televised speech on Tuesday that the one-party election was not normal and was undemocratic. He urged the kingdom's courts to seek solutions to break the current political impasse. The People's Network for Election (PNet) on Wednesday called for the Commission to cancel the fresh round of elections in the south where single candidates had failed twice to win the minimum required votes.
