dated April 28, 1956: Communal parties

Prime Minister Nehru said in Jubbulpore on April 27 that leaders of communal parties in India were "grown up children incompetent to deal with the present-day problems." Addressing a Congress workers' meeting, he said the activities of communal parties in the modern world were completely un-understandable. It was easy to collect children and do some "drill" or "parade," but the mould in which they cast the children's mind was a cause for anxiety. The Prime Minister said that sometimes he was at a loss to know what to do with such parties. There were parties which talked of consolidating the Hindu society but their methods and activities created further divisions among people.
