Nadal eases past Lopez

BARCELONA: Rafael Nadal started the defence of his Barcelona Open crown with a confident 6-4, 6-2 win over fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez here on Wednesday.

The French Open champion extended his winning streak on clay to 43 matches, just three behind Bjorn Borg in the all-time list, to set up a third-round match with Spanish qualifier Ivan Navarro-Pastor.

In the second round Nicolas Almagro bt Guillermo Coria 6-2, 6-0.
