Women voters outnumber men in Karaikal

Pondicherry: The Karaikal region of the Union Territory of Pondicherry has a total voter strength of 1, 06,345 in which women outnumber men. Against 55,348 women voters, there are only 50,997 men voters in the region.

The area of Karaikal having six Assembly constituencies is 161 sq km. Its population is 1.71 lakh out of the total population of 9.74 lakhs of the entire Union Territory of Pondicherry (2001 census).

Karaikal relies on Cauvery water for irrigation and also for drinking water supply. But the Cauvery river system had been playing truant for most part of the year although the Union Territory Administration has been taking up the issue quite often with the higher authorities for the due share of Karaikal in the Cauvery river system.
