TRADITIONAL WAY: AICC general secretary P. Sudhakar Reddy (in-charge of Congress party affairs in Pondicherry), leading a poll campaign on bicycle, in Lawspet constituency on Thursday.
Pondicherry: The president of the Pradesh Congress Committee P Shanmugham announced on Thursday immediate expulsion of those who had violated discipline of the party and jumped into the poll battle in some constituencies seeking to fight as Independents and posing challenge to officially sponsored candidates of the Congress or its allies. Addressing a press conference here he said that the vice president of the PCC V Sabapathy alias Kothandaraman was expelled from the party with immediate effect as he is contesting as rebel candidate in Mudaliarpet constituency. Mudaliarpet is allotted to the DMK. Dr Subramanian is seeking to retain the seatMr. Shanmugham said that others who were expelled from the party for being rebels and challenging official nominees of the Congress or its alliance parties in the constituencies (were: N. Rajaram (Mannadipet), J. Narayanasamy (Villianoor), N. Anandh (Bussy), G. Nehru (Orleanpet), A Elumalai (Oussudu) and V M C V Ganapathy (Neravy Grand Aldee). Already Raksha Harikrishna was expelled in Yanam constituency. The AICC Secretary P Sudhakar Reddy, who was also present, said that the party would view with seriousness the rebel activities in the party. He said that there should be coordination and joint efforts on the part of the volunteers of all the parties in the DPA. He said that his party would put in efforts in constituencies where the alliance parties had fielded candidates and expected the same cooperation from them in segments where the Congress was contesting. If there was any violation in the discipline strict action would be taken and the transgressors would face the music, he said. Sudhakar Reddy had undertaken a cycle rally with the party men in Lawspet earlier in the day seeking support of voters for the Congress nominee M O H F Shah Jahan seeking to retain the seat. Mr Reddy said that he had returned from Karaikal after launching the campaign for the DPA nominees. He said that there was a good trend for the DPA to form a Congress-led government in Pondicherry. General Secretary of the PCC A Gandhiraj was also present.
