CHENNAI: A cyclonic storm `MALA' over southeast Bay of Bengal moved slightly northwards and further intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and lies over southeast and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal centered at 0830 hrs. IST of today at about 250 Km West-northwest of Port Blair. It is likely to intensify further and move away North-northeasterly direction towards Arakkon Coast.

On Wednesday, `Hot Day' conditions prevailed over some parts of coastal Tamil Nadu.

Medak recorded the highest maximum temperature of 44 degree Celsius in the region.

A Forecast (valid until Saturday morning): Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and south interior Karnataka. Mainly dry weather will prevail over coastal Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, coastal and north interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep.
