CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday emphasised the need to impart quality education to the students to meet the challenges of life in the changing scenario of globalisation and liberalisation. He was addressing the students at his alma mater -- Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 16 here -- after presenting certificates of merit to Class VIII students who had excelled in the Middle Standard Examination 2005-06 conducted by the Union Territory Education Department. Mr. Hooda got emotional while recollecting his school days, saying the days he had spent in the school were the happiest moments of his life. He said he was visiting the institution after 40 years and several things had changed. While lauding the role of the school in imparting quality education, he said that students who had passed out from here had earned name and fame in many fields. He exhorted the students to work hard with dedication to achieve success in their life. Mr. Hooda gave away the certificates of merit to 12 students who secured over 90 per cent marks in the Middle School Examination. He also announced a grant of Rs. 5 lakhs from his discretionary fund for the school. Union Territory Chandigarh Home Secretary Krishna Mohan said that this school had created a special niche in the field of education. Getting admission was very tough as the merit percentage was very high, he added. The school Principal, R. K. Sharma, welcomed Mr. Hooda.
