MADURAI: The Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, has sanctioned Rs.6 lakh to Thiagarajar College here for conducting a free vacation training programme to school children on bio-resources. Under this programme, 25 school children will be selected and given hands-on training in utilisation of recent molecular techniques, computer technology in documenting bio-resources, its measurement and conservation. A press release from the Principal, M. Arunagiri, said students would also be exposed to medicinal plants and they can submit individual projects. The course will be conducted between May 15 and June 14 and interested students can contact the Principal before May 8. Selected candidates would be provided accommodation, course materials and their travel expenses would be reimbursed. The free training is being sponsored by National Bio Resource Development Board, New Delhi.
