ATTUR: Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam General Secretary Jayalalithaa said over 11,700 persons were given assistance to the tune of Rs. 2.73 crore under the Farmers Protection Scheme (FPS) in Salem district. Campaigning in the district on Friday, Jayalalithaa said the total assistance under the FPS included maternity assistance worth Rs. 1.46 crore, marriage assistance Rs. 61 lakh, old age pension Rs. 15.72 lakh and accident relief Rs. 9 lakh.
Identity cards
About 2.43 lakh farmers were issued identity cards under the scheme. Listing out the achievements of the AIADMK Government, she claimed that her government had taken up construction and maintenance of bridges and laying of roads and restoration of damaged roads at a cost of Rs. 256 crore in the district. Free textbooks were given to 19.37-lakh school students at a cost of Rs. 9.13 crore and free cycles to 47,846 higher secondary students at a cost of Rs. 8.10 crore, she said.
Loan waiver
If voted back to power, she promised that her government would fully waive all co-operative farm loans along with interest arrears. She said her government would meet the expenditure for waiving the co-operative loans with its own resources and would not seek assistance from the Congress-led government at the Centre.
IT jobs
She further said her government would create 32 lakh new jobs for youth and women in the information technology and organic fertilizer production sectors. She also campaigned at Talavasal before entering the Vilupuram district.
