Muttathu Varkey Award for Kamala Suraiyya

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: A day after the city police posted a policeman in front of her residence after Kamala Suraiyya complained of receiving threats to her life, fortunes seem to have come her way.

"I have been told that I have been chosen for this year's Muttathu Varkey Award. I am happy, though not elated. I am too old for celebrating awards," she said. Though her travels have been restricted because of ailments, Ms. Suraiyya toured New Delhi to receive an award instituted by the Little Magazine last month.

"Currently, I am working on little sketches of my travels to many countries across the world, representing Indian literature."
