Letters to the Editor
Time and again it has been proved that violence cannot solve the Sri Lankan ethnic strife. What is needed is reconciliation and negotiation. Neither the Sri Lankan Government nor the LTTE is in a mood to come to terms with the reality as is evident from the dastardly killing of innocents. Let them remember that in a war, there are no winners but only losers.
S. Rajasekhar,
* * * For the last several decades, the LTTE has been playing hide and seek between undeclared war and peace. Colombo's mistrust of the LTTE is justified.
P.V. Gururaj,
* * * It is well known that the LTTE is not for a negotiated settlement to the ethnic crisis. Its attack on the Sri Lankan Army chief has proved beyond doubt that it was only buying time in the garb of peace talks to strengthen itself. It is time the leaders of Tamil Nadu also realised the seriousness of the situation and the game plan of the Tigers. They should extend unconditional support to the Centre to use diplomacy and find a permanent solution to the decades-old ethnic problem.
Tharcius S. Fernando,
