COIMBATORE: Soliton Technologies Private Limited, a Bangalore-based technology company with a subsidiary in the U.S. and a branch in Coimbatore, has launched indigenously developed machine vision cameras (cameras for industrial use). It has come out with OEM cameras for specific applications and three models of basic cameras. According to its Managing Director, Ganesh Devaraj, the company has tied-up with a marketing research firm to study the sales and marketing strategy and to map market needs. It hopes to have a formal launch of the products in three months. All manufacturing companies that have manual visual inspection of products, ranging from rice sorters to automobile component makers, can use these cameras with personal computers now. The company plans to come out with a smart vision system by July. These will not only help in inspection but will also measure quality parameters and give data on rejections, thus providing complete solution. Camera-based inspection systems are popular in countries such as the U.S., Japan and Germany, he says. Soliton started developing imaging and image processing products in 2003 and the products were launched in the market recently. Currently, sales are effected mainly through exhibitions and direct marketing and the company plans to have local partners. "We have a Soliton machine vision partner programme with a couple of members already." The company will build and provide cameras and the local partners will deliver the final solution. It hopes to sell about 3,000 pieces this year. Soliton, which has its software division in Coimbatore, plans to shift the product manufacturing division also to Coimbatore in a couple of years with in-house facilities. "Eventually, we plan to centralise our operations in Coimbatore."
