Interactive programme with Kumaraswamy

Bangalore: Doordarshan Kendra, Bangalore, will telecast a live, two-hour programme with an invited audience interacting with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The audience will ask questions and present their grievances and suggestions to which the Chief Minister will react, said Mahesh Joshi, director of the kendra.

The programme will be telecast simultaneously on DD1 and Chandana channels. — Special Correspondent

BESCOM suspends employee

BANGALORE: The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has suspended Assistant Accounts Officer Mahalingu, serving in the N-2 Subdivision, for misbehaving with a consumer who had come to him with a complaint. A departmental inquiry has been ordered against the official.

In a press release, BESCOM has appealed to the public to bring to its notice any case of misbehaviour on the part of its employees. — Special Correspondent

Principal Secretary to Chief Minister

BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has chosen Principal Secretary for Home Sudhakar Rao as his Principal Secretary. Mr. Rao replaces S.V. Ranganath, who is proceeding on Central deputation.

Mr. Ranganath served three successive chief ministers as Principal Secretary: S.M. Krishna, N. Dharam Singh and Mr. Kumaraswamy.

The Government has promoted and posted Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Conservator of Forests, Watershed Development Department, Bangalore, as Chief Conservator of Forests and Executive Director (Rubber), Karnataka Forest Development Corporation Ltd., Mangalore. — Special Correspondent

G. Ravindra is NCERT joint director

MYSORE: G. Ravindra, Principal, Regional Institute of Education (RIE), has been appointed joint director of the National Council for Educational Research and Training, New Delhi, by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. His has been appointed for a period of five years, and he will assume charge on May 8.

Prof. Ravindra, served as a professor of mathematics at the RIE and as principal, RIE, Bhopal. He was the principal of RIE, Mysore for seven years. — Special Correspondent

KASSIA to hold exhibition in June

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Small-scale Industries Association (KASSIA), in collaboration with the Department of Industries and Commerce, Small Industries and Service Institute and other organisations will hold an exhibition at Palace Grounds here from June 16 to 19. The exhibition is intended to showcase the strength of small and medium enterprises in design, variety, skill, quality and export capability, according to KASSIA president Hareesh P. Hegde. Seminars of topical interest will be at the exhibition venue, he said.

Veterinary camp held at Hebbal

Bangalore: An animal health and veterinary support camp was conducted at the Veterinary College Hospital at Hebbal here under the aegis of "Gopala," a project of the Jain Group of Institutions and the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University.

According to a press release, over 800 sheep and goats, 210 calves and 79 dogs were screened, vaccinated and de-wormed at the camp.

Veterinary College Dean Govindaiah presided over the function. He said such initiatives would make people sensitive to animals and their needs.

R. Chenraj Jain, Chairman of the Jain Group of Institutions, was present.

`Send copies of books to library'

DHARWAD: Sudhendu Mandal, Director, National Library of India, Kolkata, has called upon publishers to send copies of books published by them to the library immediately after publication. He was delivering the Prof. M.R. Kumbhar Memorial Lecture-2006 on "Delivery of Books and Newspapers (Public Libraries) Act, 1954" organised by the Department of Library Sciences, Karnatak University and National Library of India, Kolkata, here on Thursday. Mr. Mandal said books were like the backbone of society. The library has begun digitising the books. This would make available the information on every book at a single place, he said. Inaugurating the seminar, M. Khajapeer, Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, stressed the need for preserving books. — Staff Correspondent

Children's bodies recovered from tank

HASSAN: Two children were drowned in a tank in Tamblapura village on the outskirts of Hassan city on Friday. The bodies have been recovered. According to the police, Harsha (15) and Raghu (13), sons of Sreenivasa, a resident of Laggere in Bangalore, left their relative's house for swimming in the morning. However, when they did not return till afternoon, the parents launched a search for them. They found the bodies in the tank, the police said. — Staff Correspondent

RAICHUR: A man aged about 65 was found dead on Raichur-Mantralayam Road near Saibaba Math near here on Thursday. The Yergera police have registered a case. — Staff Correspondent

Man killed in accident

RAICHUR: Veeresh (13) died on the spot when a tractor in which he was travelling overturned and fell into a ditch in Matmari village near here on Thursday. The Idapanur plice have registered a case. — Staff Correspondent

Bill collection centres open on Sunday

HUBLI: The bill collection counters of Hubli Electricity Supply Company at Tabibland, near New English School, Old Hubli, Vishweshwar Nagar, Keshwapur, Akshay Park, Unakal Cross and Navanagar will be function even on April 30 (Sunday) and May 1, which have been declared as holiday, a press release said. — Staff Correspondent

Licence cancelled

DHARWAD: The Deputy Commissioner has issued orders for cancellation of the license to Regal Cinema Theatre in Dharwad till the matter is finalised in the court of law, the Police Commissioner of Hubli-Dharwad has said in a release. The action has been taken following a complaint filed by M.N. Subrahmanya, Vigilance Executive of Copyright Safety, Central Board of Film Certification, regarding screening pornographic clips in the theatre during the screening of a Hindi movie recently. A case has been filed in the First Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Dharwad. — Staff Correspondent
