MYSORE: More than 300 employees of various courier companies in Mysore took out a march in the city on Friday protesting against the Union Government's move to amend the Indian Postal Act with a view to giving the Postal Department the exclusive right to handle posts weighing less than 300 grams. Employees and proprietors of courier companies in Mysore gathered in front of Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple on Friday morning under the auspices of Mysore Courier Association. Holding aloft banners and shouting slogans against the Centre's reported move to amend the Indian Postal Act, the protestors went in a procession to Deputy Commissioner's office through K.R. Circle and D. Devaraj Urs Road. Later, a memorandum addressed to the Union Government was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner. "The amendment has been conceived with an ulterior motive to wind up courier business in the country," president of Mysore Courier Association K.V. Mahesh said in a press statement. Association representatives apprehended that lakhs of employees of courier companies would be thrown to the streets if the Act was amended.
