HYDERABAD: Hyderabad moved into the semifinals of the 12th Andhra Pradesh mini inter-district volleyball championship defeating Ranga Reddy 25-14, 25-15 at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Friday. Rohan Prasad, Siddartha combined well at the net while central-blocker Mahesh came up up with some impressive smashes. For the losers, S. Raju and Aravind Kumar put up a good show. Other quarterfinals results: Anantapur bt Karimnagar 25-9, 25-20; Medak bt Mahabubnagar 25-19, 25-9; Warangal bt Prakasham 25-15, 25-16.
HCA secretary's assurance
N. Shivlal Yadav, secretary of Hyderabad Cricket Association, promised the cricketing fraternity of great things in store and that Hyderabad cricket would regain it's past glory very soon as a series of measures would be initiated. Speaking at the annual prize distribution of HCA at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium (Uppal), Shivlal said that it was time the players start dreaming beyond the domains of the State and aim really big. "We are here to provide the best of infrastructure like this beautiful stadium. We are open for any constructive cricitism and for the benefit of the players," he asserted. Chief guest N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Whip, AP Congress Legislature Party, lauded the efforts of HCA in promoting the sport and conducting various tournaments. The winners of A-Division championship were given Rs. 10000 each and the runner-up Rs. 5000 each.
Syed Khaleel for TFA
Syed Khaleel of Andhra Pradesh Sports School has been selected by the renowned Tata Football Academy (Jamshedpur) for the year 2006-07, according to K. Narsaiah, Special Officer of the School. He happens to be the only player from the State who got this distinction. The Officer hoped that Khaleel would improve his standard and bring laurels to the State in future.
Kho-kho trials
Hyderabad District Kho-kho Association will organise selection trials for men and women on April 30 at Sree Hanuman Vyayamshala, Sultan Bazaar, from 7.00 am, according to a press release. The district teams to take part in the Senior inter-district championship to be held in Peddapalli (Karimnagar) from May 3 to 5 will be picked in the above trials. Interested should report at the venue to Shailendra Ganneri, secretary of HDKKA.
DSA camps
Ranga Reddy District Sports Authority will organise summer coaching camps in tennis, handball, gymnastics, badminton, volleyball and kabaddi at Saroornagar Indoor Stadium from May 2 to 31. Further details can be had from the RRDSA at the venue.
