LDF playing caste, religious cards: Moily

Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: The Congress Working Committee member M. Veerappa Moily, who is in charge of Kerala affairs, has said that whenever the Left Democratic Front (LDF) had played religious and caste cards in the Kerala elections, it was defeated.

Talking to presspersons here on Friday, the Congress leader observed that the LDF was playing these cards in the present elections as well. The LDF was projecting leaders of a minority community or a sub-caste as its Chief Minister candidate. This tactic of the LDF was not going to create any goodwill among the electorate of the State.

The statement of Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan that ``the LDF wave'' could not be credited to any individual exposed the factionalism in the party. The statement of Leader of the Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan that `men' would decide the next Chief Minister either betrayed the male chauvinist in him or seeks to portray all those who opposed him in the party as not `men.'

He said that Kerala had the best broadband facility in the country. That was why the UDF Government had taken some initiatives in the Information Technology sector. Kerala had to take advantage of this, he said.

Mr. Moily claimed that investors were keen to see the UDF's good governance to continue. They were just waiting for a green signal from the electorate here.
