TIRUCHI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president M. Krishnassamy has taken exception to the "sudden" withdrawal of permission by the city police to address an election meeting by him at Edamalaipattiputhur on Thursday evening, purportedly citing the presence of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the city. Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Krishnassamy said the mere presence of the Chief Minister in the city was not reason enough for the police to restrain him from addressing the meeting. Were the Chief Minister was to cross that point around that time, the police action would have been justifiable. When asked about the demand made by some parties for the resignation of Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran over the DTH issue, Mr. Krishnassamy said he was yet to study the matter fully. To a query, he said resurgence of turmoil in Sri Lanka would not become an issue for the Assembly elections. Mr. Krishnassamy said a decision on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Tiruchi for campaigning could be confirmed only after the police and the special security agencies approve any of the four meeting venues identified for the purpose. Accompanied by party functionaries, Mr. Krishnassamy inspected the venues, including the `Uzhavar Sandai' grounds and the St. Joseph's College grounds.
