Awards for outstanding students

NEW DELHI: Students of DAV Public Schools from across the country who secured 90 per cent marks and above in the Central Board of Secondary Education and State Board examinations were presented awards at a function organised here on Friday to mark Mahatma Hansraj Day. Students of DAV Colleges who topped in their universities were also honoured.

Later, students of DAV Public School, Pushpanjali Enclave, staged a ballet titled ``Kartavya Sadhna" highlighting the contribution and sacrifices made by Mahatma Hansraj

Award presentation ceremony

NEW DELHI: The annual award presentation ceremony of Delhi Schools' Literary Project (DSLP) was held at Springdales School at Dhaula Kuan on Friday.

The Sufia Ajmali Award was presented to Laxman Public School for making 936 unlettered people literate. The UNICEF Trophy was awarded to Manav Sthali School for outstanding work in the field of adult literacy. The Rotary Club Trophy for best all-round performance was jointly shared by the Dhaula Kuan and Pusa Road branches of Springdales School. DSLP secretary P. Loomba said more than 4,072 learners were made literate this year by 23 participating schools.

South African delegation

NEW DELHI: A delegation of senior officials and Ministers from South Africa visited the Sulabh International Social Service Organisation's campus at Palam here on Friday.

They went round the campus and visited Sulabh English Medium School, saw the toilet models and biogas unit and also had discussions with senior engineers and experts on promoting mutual cooperation.

Cultural programme

NEW DELHI: The Association of Wives of Heads of African Diplomatic Missions has organised a cultural gala on Saturday at the residence of the Ambassador of Sudan as a benefit event for disadvantaged children of several institutions in Delhi.

Various activities including raffles, fashion shows, musical performances and a dinner dance have been planned for the evening. Children from the institutions will also be present.

Centenary of Russian parliament

NEW DELHI: Former Bihar Governor Buta Singh underlined the significant role that Parliament plays in a strong democracy while speaking at a seminar organised here on Thursday to mark the centenary of the Russian parliament, Duma.

He dwelt at length on the characteristics of the parliaments in India and Russia and said there was much in common between them. The function was organised by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture and the India-Russia Friendship Society.
