NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Karan Singh on Friday said unity is paramount for solving global problems.

Speaking at a function organised here to mark the 40th anniversary of Unity International Foundation, a non-government organisation, Dr. Singh called for a coalition of NGOs that can collectively contribute to amity and peace.

Dr. Singh also gave away awards to the Ambassadors of Sudan, Tunisia and Bulgaria and the Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy for promoting global understanding and their countries' relations with India. In his presidential speech, former Tamil Nadu Governor Bhishma Narain Singh said the 21st Century would belong to NGOs.

He expressed the hope that the Government would be more liberal in guiding and helping such organisations that can play a vital role in promoting relations with other countries. Highlighting the activities of Unity International Foundation, R.N. Anil, founder of the organisation, said it was working on the twin ideals of ``one world one family".
