NEW DELHI: Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav on Friday sought the dismissal of Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal from the Union Cabinet for his remarks against the quota for Other Backward Castes (OBCs) in the private sector and Central educational institutions. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Yadav said Mr. Sibal "has violated the principle of collective responsibility as he was present in the Cabinet meeting that approved the draft Constitutional Amendment Bill for reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions. By talking against reservations for OBCs, he has talked against the very Constitution under whose oath he is a Minister." Mr. Yadav said the 93rd Constitutional Amendment Bill for OBC reservation in Central educational institutions was discussed with political parties, approved by the Union Cabinet and passed by MPs. He said it was due to "internal politics" in the Congress that some members were projecting a "rift" between Manmohan Singh and Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh on the issue.
