Committee chiefs may be asked to continue

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The State Government is unlikely to accept the resignations of two former judges of the High Court Venkataraman and Rangavittalachar from the committees they are heading. It will request them to continue in the posts as it feels that they have done a good job.

While Mr. Venkataraman is heading the Committee on Admission of Candidates to Private Professional Colleges, Mr. Rangavittalachar is in charge of the Fee Fixation Committee. Both the committees were appointed by the State Government after a Supreme Court judgment.

The Fee Committee was earlier headed by the former judge A.B. Murgod. Both Mr. Rangavittalachar and Mr. Venkataraman had resigned after the Governor signed the Karnataka Education Bill, 2006. As per the provisions of the Bill, the committees had to be reconstituted.

When contacted, Minister for Higher Education D.H Shankaramurthy said both of them would be asked to continue and that the State Government had no intention now to reconstitute the committees.
