Health centre for tsunami-hit families

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The Community Development Organisation Trust (C-DOT) inaugurated a health care centre for the tsunami-affected at a resettlement site at Ernavoor near here on Friday. The centre, said Rajendran of C-DOT, was aimed at promoting community health.

This was reiterated by J. M. Prabhakar, director, Institute of Community Medicine, with the Madras Medical College.

The centre would concentrate on improving women's health — from providing mother and childcare to addressing issues such as violence against women.

"Nutrition will also be part of the programme," Mr. Rajendran said.

The centre will start functioning from next week. A doctor will attend to patients from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

A nurse, counsellor and social workers will hold classes on health education in the afternoon.
