ERODE: Actor-turned politician and leader of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam Vijayakant has alleged that big, powerful political parties in the State were sabotaging his political meetings. He also charged the media with not highlighting that problem despite his repeated attempts to raise them. Talking to reporters late on Friday night, Mr. Vijayakant said after repetition of such instances, he was forced not to see it as mere a coincidence. "There is somebody out there trying to sabotage my meetings. One of the big Dravidian parties is behind it." Earlier in the evening, when he was on his way to address a public meeting, police stopped his convoy outside Erode citing the movement of another politician. He had to walk for more than a kilometre to hire a taxi to reach the venue. Likewise, in Gudiyatham, Vellore, Krishnagiri and a few other places, miscreants disrupted power supply, blocked his movement, he complained. "The municipal administration is asking me to talk to the police, who in turn are directing me to the Election Commission," he said. He did not spare the media, either. "Many dailies, which I do not want to name, are deliberately not publishing the news." He also charged the Election Commission with doing not enough to protect smaller parties like his.
