HYDERABAD: Nearly 2,000 acres of prime land has been allotted afresh to Infosys, Raheja, Indu Projects and Brahmani Infotech in Hyderabad and to Sri Lanka's Brandix and Apollo Hospitals in Visakhapatnam. The Cabinet took this decision on the plea that the firms in Hyderabad would generate employment in the information technology sector and contribute to the tax base. Raheja and Indu are planning to construct large IT facilities.
Infosys' second phase
At a meeting here on Saturday, the Cabinet approved allotment of an additional 150 acres of land to Infosys at Mamidipalli and Kancha Imarat villages near Shamshabad international airport for its second phase with an investment of Rs. 1,000 crores, with a potential to create about 25,000 jobs. The land will be sold at Rs. 12 lakhs an acre. The Government had earlier allotted 50 acres to Infosys for its existing facility at Manikonda. Information Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir told reporters later that Raheja, Indu Projects and Brahmani Infotech have also been allotted 250 acres each in the same villages. They would be part of an integrated IT SEZ providing employment to about 1,35,000 professionals.
Garment city at Vizag
At Visakhapatnam, Brandix, a garment giant, would get 1,000 acres at Atchyutapuram for a 25-year lease at Rs. 5 lakhs an acre to develop a garment city with an outlay of Rs. 50 crores and provide jobs 60,000 people. In line with the MoU, the Cabinet also approved the release of Rs. 12.5 crores to develop infrastructure for the project. An extent of 10 acres has been allotted at Chinnadadila near the city to Apollo Hospitals at the rate of Rs. 2 crores an acre for setting up a super speciality hospital. The Army Welfare Association has been given 15 acres at Jawaharnagar near Shamirpet near Hyderabad to establish an army institute of medical sciences. Other major land alienations cleared by the Cabinet included 245 acres at four different places for housing in favour of judges, MP/MLAs, the families of ex-MPs/MLAs, civil servants and journalists. Approval was given to regularise the occupation of 2008 acres at Bhainsa in Adilabad district by different sections of people on payment of Rs. 2 lakhs an acre.
