BHUBANESWAR: National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has reported profit after tax of Rs. 608.02 crores for the quarter ending March 31, registering an increase of 40 per cent over Rs. 434.24 crores achieved in the corresponding period of previous fiscal. The company closed the financial year with the highest-ever net profit of Rs. 1,564.65 crores recording an increase of 27 per cent over the previous year's Rs. 1,234.84 crores. According to unaudited results taken on record at a meeting of the Board of Directors in New Delhi on Saturday, the company also reported an all-time high sales turnover of Rs. 5,324.2 crores compared Rs. 4,439.99 crores in the previous year. It recorded a jump of 20 per cent. During 2005-06, the export earnings were also the highest-ever at Rs. 2,269.4 crores as compared to Rs. 2,200.25 crores in the previous year.
New records
On the production front, the company established new records in all the segments.
Bauxite mining
The company stated in a release that its bauxite mines crossed the rated capacity to achieve the highest-ever production of 48.54-lakh tonnes against 48.52-lakh tonnes of the previous year. Similarly, alumina production increased to 15.9-lakh tonnes from 15.75-lakh tonnes, achieving 101 per cent capacity utilisation.
