New EB office

CHENNAI: The electricity consumers of Raj Bhavan section can remit their electricity charges in the newly opened computerised billing section at the 33 K.V.Raj Bhavan Sub-Station Complex on Velachery Road from May 2, says a release.

Numismatics exhibition

A three-day numismatics exhibition of Japanese Coins and Currency notes will begin on May 4. Ms.Yuka Ligai, Vice Consul, Consulate General of Japan, Chennai, will inaugurate the exhibition at 10 a.m. on that day. Aero-modelling course

Awareness campaign

An awareness campaign on the social evils such as adverse effects of tobacco, drugs, liquor, child abuse, AIDS, hygiene, vulgarity, cultural degeneration, road safety and traffic rules was organised by the Anna Gem Science Park Matriculation Higher Secondary School on Friday. Students carrying placards bearing message on the social evils stood on the pavement for about an hour on that day near the Kotturpuram Traffic signal point, a release said.

Bank branch opened

Renovated branch of the Canara Bank, Saidapet, was reopened on Thursday. The branch issued Loan for 24 artisans (Plumbers, electricians, carpenters and auto mechanics).

Fatal fall for student

A 19-year-old youth died when he fell from the terrace of a three-storey building at Kanathur on Friday. Police, who are investigating the incident, identified the victim as Felix Fernando of Tuticorin district. He was a first-year student of B.Sc Nautical Sciences in a private marine engineering college at Kanathur. In the afternoon, he had gone to the terrace of his college building, informing his friends that he was going there to study.

Minutes later, he was found dead on the ground floor. Police said they had registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances.

Boy drowned in temple tank

A fourteen-year-old boy S. Ramakrishnan, son of Selvaraj, drowned in the Perumal temple tank in Saidapet late Saturday evening. He was bathing with his friends in the tank. The body was recovered and sent to Royapettah Government Hospital.
