KOZHIKODE: In a rare occasion, members of the Syed families came together to participate in a get-together. The family reunion of the Syed group in the Muslim community was held at the Khasi Syed Muhasin Shihab Thangal Nagar (Tagore Hall) here on Sunday. The meet at which more than 700 members participated comprised three sessions - milad sangamom, study classes and delegates' meet. President of Markaaz Syed Fasal Pookoya Thangal inaugurated the first session. Basheer Ali Shihab Thangal presided. The Syeds, who link their ancestry to the family of the Prophet, came together in a bid to reinforce their commitment to society and to members of their own community, organising committee chairman Syed Hamza Bafakhi said. As part of the reunion, a free medical camp was conducted in association with Baby Memorial Hospital and Agarwal Eye Hospital. Syeds from different walks of life including Syed Ummer Bafakhi Thangal, Syed Abdurehman Kunhioya Thangal Ullal, Syed Abdurehman Hydross Azhari Thangal were among those who participated in the get-together. The family get-together that was scheduled for April 22 was postponed to April 30 due to the death of a family member, Sharifa Fathima Beevi, wife of Panakkad Muhammedali Shihab Thangal.
