Award for Hema Bharali

Special Correspondent

"Every individual must work towards amity and promotion of peace"

Hema Bharali

NEW DELHI: Noted Sarvodaya activist Hema Bharali, who has been selected for the National Communal Harmony Award on Sunday, said it was for every individual to work towards amity and promotion of peace.

Ms. Bharali (88) said community based approach should be adopted to tackle the communal virus.

She said people should be willing to sacrifice a bit of their comfort to work for the betterment of society and that the Government was just one instrument to bring about a change. She said each individual has to take responsibility in a society and even Governments were created by people.

"If Government is for, by and of the people then we should ask ourselves why were so many people being killed in riots. Should we not make efforts to prevent such events. Everyone does something for his family... '' she said at an interaction with correspondents at the Home Ministry here.

Award for R.K. Mission

Ms. Bharali was selected by the National Foundation for Communal Harmony for the National Communal Harmony Award 2005 in the individual category section.

The Ramakrishna Mission has been selected in the organisational category.
