HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to suspend all ongoing works related to the Polavaram project forthwith till it gets forest clearance, as suggested by Supreme Court Central Empowered Committee. The important decision was taken at a meeting on the Committee's `suggestion, here on Sunday chaired by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and attended by Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah, Secretary in charge of Irrigation, Satish Chandra and Advocate-General C. V. Mohan Reddy. Accordingly, work on several components such as spillway and canals valued at Rs. 2,600 crore which are in full swing, will come to a grinding halt. Mr. Lakshmaiah said all contractors would be asked to put work on hold temporarily.
