Singur (Medak): Minister for Minority Welfare Mohd. Fareeduddin and Minister for Tourism J. Geetha Reddy on Saturday launched survey work for construction of the Rs. 89-crore Singur canal project envisaged to irrigate 40,000 acres in Andole, Pulkal and Sadasivapet mandals of Medak district. They also laid the foundation for New Singur village which would be rehabilitated by the displaced persons. Later, addressing a public meeting, Mohd. Fareeduddin said the project would be completed in two years and the survey work would be over by December. The construction work has been entrusted to Pune-based Mahalakshmi Construction Limited. Mrs. Geetha Reddy said that families in 60 villages that could be affected by the canal work would be offered the best of the rehabilitation packages and Rs. 25 crores from the total project cost had actually been earmarked for the compensation package.
Fish seed released
Earlier, Mohd. Fareeduddin, who is also the Fisheries Minister, released fish seed into the Singur reservoir marking development of inland fisheries in the State. He said in all 4.10 crore fish would be released into 23 reservoirs in the State this season.
