Staff Reporter

Relatives allege indifference by External Affairs Ministry

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The relatives of K.Krishnan Nair, 48, who died of a heart attack in Saudi Arabia on March 30, have urged Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to take immediate steps to bring the body back to the State.

Krishan Nair was working as a mason at a construction company in Damam, when he died of heart attack nearly 30 days ago. He is survived by his wife and two children.

A resident of Pravachambalam, Nemom, Krishnan Nair went to Saudi Arabia in search of better prospects nearly 13 years ago.

According to a release issued by his relative, Murlai Kottakkakam, ever since the death of Krishnan Nair, the family has been running from pillar to post, meeting politicians including the Chief Minister and Transport Minister N. Shaktan, who is also the elected representative of Nemom, and contacting embassies, consulates and Malayali organisation in Saudi Arabia to bring the body home.

Though the authorities of the construction company had initially offered to sent the body to the State, they later backtracked on their promise, the release stated.

Moreover, the efforts made by family members to contact the company officials over the phone were met with indifferent responses, taccording to the release

Mr. Murali pointed out that even after sending all the necessary documents to the Saudi officials, the family is yet to get a satisfactory reply from either the Indian embassy or the Consulate.

He alleged that both the External Affairs Ministry and Overseas Indian Affairs Ministry were doing precious little in resolving the crisis.
