ARANTHANGI: The former Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani on Sunday claimed that it was the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, who determined the direction the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government should take. Addressing an election meeting here, he said if the Central Government were to be compared to a motor vehicle, there was a Prime Minister saying that he would not sit behind the steeringand wantingMs. Gandhito take the wheel. And, whenever Prime Minister Manmohan Singh pressed the accelerator, the Left applied the brakes. Seeking support for BJP candidates fielded in Aranthangi, Pudukottai, Kolathur, Alangudi and Thirumayam Assembly constituencies, Mr. Advani said in the last 20 years the BJP had grown in strength that had astonished not only those within the country but also abroad. The difference between the BJP and the rest was that while others were trying to restrict their vision appealing to think on the lines of caste, community etc, the BJP emphasised on thinking about the nation, he said. This is Advani's first visit to Aranthangi and to the district.
