NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old head constable of the Assam Rifles who was on deputation with the Intelligence Bureau and his wife ended their lives after allegedly killing their son and daughter at their Chanakyapuri residence in New Delhi. The police have not recovered any suicide note. According to the police, they received a call around 11 a.m. on Sunday informing them that something was amiss at the I.B. Colony quarter of Head Constable S.K. Nair as no one was responding to repeated knocks at the door. Subsequently, the police broke open the door and found the head constable hanging from the ceiling fan in a room that was locked from inside. His wife Bindu lay near the bathroom in a pool of blood with her wrists slit. The police team found the bodies of their daughter Archa (2) and son Aromal (7) in the bathroom. Circumstantial evidence suggested that Nair first locked himself in the room and hanged himself. Realising that he had committed suicide, Bindu allegedly killed her children by drowning them, then slit her wrists and died due to excessive bleeding. "It seems to be the case but at this stage we cannot say anything for sure. The post-mortem report will establish the cause of deaths," said a police officer, adding that investigations were on. Enquiries revealed that the family, which came from Kerala, had moved to the I.B. Colony quarter very recently. Area residents told the police that Nair appeared to be an introvert as he did not interact much with them. "Some residents informed that Bindu had recently completed a computer course and planned to join a job in a couple of days," said the police officer, adding that the relatives of the deceased have been informed. While the post-mortem would be conducted in their (relatives') presence, inquest proceedings into the matter have been initiated.
