Suryanarayana killing condemned

NEW DELHI: The president of India Islamic Cultural Centre, Sirajuddin Qureshi, and all members of its Board of Trustee and Executive Committee have severely condemned the brutal killing of Indian telecom engineer K. Suryanarayana in Afghanistan. "This terrorist act of killing has shocked the entire nation," said Mr. Qureshi in a statement.

"This tragedy occurred much before the deadline set by the terrorists whose demand for removal of all Indian workers from Afghanistan within the stipulated time was both impossible and illogical. This terrorist act is politically motivated to widen the gap between the peoples of the two countries," he said.

Free eye camp

NEW DELHI: A free eye camp was organised jointly by Tarun Mitra Parishad and Mitra Sangam at Tagore Public School in Jheel Kuranja on Sunday.

According to the Parishad's General Secretary Ashok Jain, a medical team from St. Stephen's Hospital checked 283 patients, gave them medicine and selected 42 for cataract operations free of cost. Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely inaugurated the camp by lighting the traditional lamp. He lauded the efforts of the Parishad in holding the camp for the welfare of senior citizens.

South African team visits Bawana

NEW DELHI: A delegation from South Africa visited the Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation complex at Bawana this past Friday. The delegation was led by Saths Moodley, Special Advisor (Housing), South Africa. The delegation had detailed discussions with Delhi Industries Minister Mangat Ram Singhal and Jalaj Srivastava, Managing Director of DSIDC, and other senior officers. Mr. Singhal told the delegation that the low cost houses built by DSIDC for industrial workers under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Project was one of its kind. The housing complex at Bawana is an eco-friendly and self-contained complex with a reserve area of 23 acres earmarked for the purpose of housing.The delegations also discussed the technical aspects of the DSIDC low-cost housing.

Flyover opened

NEW DELHI: DS Constructions, an infrastructure company, has opened the first flyover at Rajokari, of the 11 flyovers and underpasses on the 27.7 km long Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. It is India's first state-of-the-art Expressway on Delhi-Gurgaon Highway on BOT basis. The original cost of the project was Rs.550 crores, which has been revised to about Rs.800 crores after the change of scope of work.

The project has come a long way after facing initial set backs like delay in handing over of land, removal of utilities and most importantly the change in scope of work. DS Constructions is targeting completion of 90 per cent of the project facility by end of September 2006 and substantial completion of the Expressway by the end of this year.
