Thiruvananthapuram: Viral fever cases have been reported more in Thiruvananthapuram district than in other parts of the State, a statement issued by the Directorate of Health Services, said. This is owing to the sudden climatic changes and as the disease is air-borne, those with fever should not come into close contact with others to prevent the spread of the disease, the statement said. Fever clinics are functioning in all hospitals and adequate supply of medicines, including paracetamol, antibiotics and penicillin, have been made available in all hospitals. All hospital superintendents and medical officers have been directed to buy essential drugs through local purchase arrangements in case of any deficiency. Diagnostic facilities have also been made available in all hospitals and public health laboratory. The District Collector will be convening yet another meeting of various department heads, health officials and representatives of non-governmental organisations on May 3 to discuss the coordinated efforts needed to enhance preventive measures. An epidemic control cell (telephone 2302160) is functioning in the Directorate of Health Services for monitoring the preventive measures and for collecting reports regarding viral fever from various districts.
Homoeo medicines
The Federation of Residents' Associations (FRAT) and the Iranimuttam Government Homoeo College will be distributing preventive homoeo medicines against viral fever on May 3, 4, 5 and 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kalyani Kalyanamandapam, Vanchiyoor. All residents' associations may submit applications at the venue, specifying the amount of drugs required by each Association for distribution among their member residents, a statement issued by Frat said.
