dated May 2, 1956: Cochin case for shipyard

Cochin's suitability for setting up there the proposed second shipyard was pressed by Mr. V.P. Nayar and Mr. A.M. Thomas through supplementary questions in the Lok Sabha on May 1. Cochin had, Mr. Nayar urged, certain advantages which no other port in the country had. There was also the question of acute unemployment there. Mr. Satish Chandra, Deputy Minister for Production, assured the member that the Travancore-Cochin Government had been told that, while selecting a site for the second shipyard, the claim of that region would receive due consideration.
