Pondicherry: The manifesto of the Pondicherry State unit of DMK has assured that the party would strive hard to ensure compulsory education in the the Union Territory to achieve a cent per cent literacy. General Secretary of the DMK K. Anbalagan released the manifesto at a public meeting here on Monday. The AICC General Secretary V Narayanasamy MP and the convenor of Pondicherry State unit of the DMK R V Janakiraman were among those present. The manifesto promises effective measures to enhance the lot of the downtrodden, the physically challenged persons and also to procure an enhanced monthly financial assistance at Rs 4,000 from present Rs 3,000 to freedom fighters. The party also promised that an assistance of Rs 20,000 would be extended to the poor families to enable them to meet part of expenditure of marriage of the girl in the family. A State level Human Rights Commission would be set up. The manifesto also appealed to the people to extend their support to the candidates sponsored by the DMK, the Congress, the PMK and the CPI so as to have a fair, transparent and efficient administration. The party would also seek exemption from income tax and also from payment of customs duty for five years by new industries.
