May Day celebrated

"Sustained approach to tackle grievances of workers must"

Pondicherry: The JIPMER Employees Union celebrated the May Day on its premises here on Monday with its president S. Dakshnamoorthy addressing a meeting to highlight the significance of the day. The general secretary M S Nataraj, the president of JIPMER Canteen Employees Welfare Association Selvaraj and a host of leaders of different wings of the employees also spoke.

The secretary of the State unit of CPI N. Kalainathan MLA said in a release that this year's May Day celebration synchronised with the ongoing elections.

G. Velusamy the president of the Pondicherry based Bharatha Makkal Construction Workers Welfare Union has appealed to the District Election Officer of Pondicherry to issue orders declaring holiday with wages on May 8. He also said that the Workers Welfare Union celebrated the May Day with traditional enthusiasm.
