NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to remove about 475 slums on a five-acre plot belonging to the Authority on Outram Lines near Delhi University. A Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender and Justice S.N. Aggarwal directed the Authority to demolish the slums and build a market complex and a community centre as planned by it. The Authority in its affidavit submitted that it had earmarked the plot for building a market complex and a community centre, but the land mafia and the slum dwellers demolished the boundary wall and grabbed the land in 1991. The Authority further submitted that 90 of the slum dwellers had been allotted plots of 12.5 square metres each, while 12 of them given plots of 18 square metres each.
