GHAZIPUR: Don-turned-Independent MLA from Mau in Uttar Pradesh Mukhtar Ansari on Monday appeared before the court in a case pertaining to 1996. The Mau legislator and his supporters had fired upon the then ASP Udayshankar Jaiswal during a vehicle checking drive.
Mau riots
When Ansari was made accused in last year's Mau communal riots, he cancelled his bail and went to jail in the 1996 case. The court fixed May 8 as the next date of hearing.
Fast track court
Later, the fast track court also accepted the application of Ghazipur district jail superintendent to send Ansari to the King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow for check-up. On another application, Judge Mohd Hussain also allowed the controversial MLA to attend the next U.P. Assembly session. In yet another application, the court allowed Ansari to appear before the Magistrate in Lucknow on May 3 in a case.
