Meerut fire death toll rises to 57

MEERUT: The death toll in the April 10 Victoria Park fire tragedy has risen to 57 with one of those being treated in a Noida hospital succumbing to burn injuries, officials said on Monday.

The body of Narendra Bhatia, a doctor by profession who was undergoing treatment for burns at Kailash Hospital in Noida, was brought to his house in Defence Colony on Sunday and the last rites performed at Suruj Kund crematorium, they said.

An RSS worker, Bhatia leaves behind his wife, a son and daughter.

Control room officer in charge SDM Shishir Singh said the death toll in the devastating fire during the Brand India consumer show last month has gone up to 57 and 75 people were still admitted in hospitals in Meerut, Noida, Ghaziabad and Delhi.
