High Court issues notice to Chauhan

JABALPUR: The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday issued fresh notices to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and two others on a petition challenging withdrawal of a seven-year old criminal case against him.

Justice Manjusha Namjoshi, while issuing fresh notices to Mr. Chauhan as also Raisen district prosecution officer and assistant prosecution officer of Gauharganj, asked them to reply by May 11.

No reply has been received so far from the three to the notices issued earlier on April 26.

Petitioner Siddharth Gupta has contended that a case had been registered against Mr. Chauhan and others around seven years ago in connection with a sit-in staged in Raisen district.

He claimed Mr. Chauhan did not appear before the court during hearing in the case after getting bail.

After Mr. Chauhan took over as Chief Minister, the State Government had made an appeal for withdrawal of the case in public interest which was accepted by the court while 15 others were penalised Rs 100 fine each in the case, the petitioner claimed.
