Miscreants snatch gold chains from two women

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Akshaya Tritiya turned out to be inauspicious for Sridevi of Vidyaranyapura and Roopa of Thyagarajanagar as they fell victims to chain snatchers in the city on Sunday evening.

Like scores of people who bought gold on Akshaya Tritiya, Sridevi of Sainagar in Vidyaranyapura went to a jewellery shop near Jalahalli Cross to buy gold ornaments.

After buying the jewellery, she and her mother were walking near the Aiyappa Temple at Jalahalli Cross to catch a bus. A youth, who came from behind, snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 15,000 from Sridevi and ran away. The Peenya police have registered a case.

In the other incident, Roopa, a resident of 7th Main, 3rd Block, Thyagarajanagar, was walking back home after inviting a friend for Akshaya Tritiya puja at her house.

Around 6.15 p.m. as Roopa was nearing her house, two men, who came on a motorcycle, snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 25,000 from her and sped away. The Thyagarajanagar police have registered a case.

Robbed

Two armed men robbed a garment factory employee and his three friends of Rs. 1,500 in Sriramapuram police station limits on Sunday. Police said Prashanth, a resident of Lakshminarayana Pura, and his three friends were going to the Majestic area to buy new clothes.

On the way, around 11.30 a.m. when the four went to a secluded and bushy area near Okalipuram to answer the call of nature, two armed men threatened Prashanth and his friends and robbed them of the cash, the police added.

House burgled

Burglars struck at Kalyana Krishna's house in M.C. Layout in Vijayanagar police station limits and made away with gold ornaments, silver articles and electronic goods, together worth Rs. 2 lakh.
