NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday terminated the services of 180 Class IV employees who had managed to get jobs in the civic body through fraudulent means in connivance with some Health Department employees. These employees had been working in the department for more than a couple of years now. They had managed to get permanent appointment to posts that were lying vacant with the help of an upper division clerk of the department, R.C. Sharma, the alleged kingpin behind the fraud who is absconding since the case came into light. Stating that investigations were going on and more cases of fake appointments might surface, Additional Commissioner (Health) Manoj Parida said as and when other cases are detected, services of those found guilty would be terminated. "We are also making efforts to recover the payments received by these employees and also prosecute them legally," he added. A case has already been lodged at the Indraprastha Estate police station.
Modus operandi
Giving more details about how the sacked employees managed to get job, Municipal Councillor Ajit Chaudhary, who first raised the matter in an MCD Standing Committee meeting a few months ago, said Sharma used to know about vacant posts at various hospitals and health centres being run by the department. "He first would prepare a fake transfer order of a person and then get the same person employed in the office with the vacant post," he added.
Similar racket
Stating that he had exposed a similar recruitment racket in engineering department also on which a vigilance enquiry was going on, Mr. Chaudhary said the civic body had suffered a monthly loss of around Rs.15 lakhs for over two years. Alleging that senior MCD officials were involved in this racket and were now shielding Sharma, he said the civic body should initiate probes in other departments also.
