LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to constitute an independent corporation for transmission of power in the State. A decision to this effect was taken by the State Cabinet at its meeting on Tuesday, Chief Secretary N. C. Bajpai told reporters here. He said the Government would soon set up the Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation to look after transmission of electricity. Till date, the Uttar Pradesh Vidyut Vyapar Nigam used to look after both purchase as well as transmission of electricity, he said, adding that after it was set up, the UP Power Corporation would look after sale and purchase of power. The Chief Secretary also said that the Government had further decided to provide export passes to the industries engaged in manufacturing liquor from grains on furnishing a guarantee of Rs 50 croress. Earlier, these units were issued export passes only after providing a revenue of Rs 50 crores but now they would be given the export passes after depositing Rs 50 crores as guarantee, he said. If the revenue provided by the unit in question was less than Rs 50 crores, the amount would be deducted from the guarantee money, he said. The Government had also decided to stand guarantee for the Rs 786 crore- loan to be taken by the State Electricity Board for expansion of transmission lines under rural electrification project, Mr. Bajpai said.
